seasonal movie review for the week

TEEN WOLF RECAP:DEREK'S TRAGIC PAST IS REVEALED

There’s a reason Derek’s big, bushy eyebrows always look so sullen — and this week, we found out what that is!

Teen Wolf delivered its much-hyped flashback episode July 22, and while the multiple strolls down memory lane held my interest for the hour, I’m definitely suffering from information overload. While Gerard relayed the twisted history of the evil Alpha pack, Peter’s (Ian Bohen) tale specifically focused on what turned Derek’s (Tyler Hoechlin) eyes into sparkling baby blues.
Also, I apologize if this recap comes across more recap-y than most. There’s just a lot of ground to cover.

Meet The Emissaries

Let’s start with the new vocab word we got this week: “emissary,” which is basically an Alpha’s liaison to the rest of humanity. Dr. Deaton was apparently the emissary of Talia Hale, Derek’s mother, who was once highly respected as the most powerful member of the current evil Alpha pack — and rightfully so, as she could freakin’ shape shift!
Ms. Morell (Bianca Lawson) is also an emissary, unfortunately, to the evil Alphas.
But does this also mean that Morrell and Deaton are connected to the infamous druids we’ve been hearing so much about? That certainly would explain why Bianca sounds so sinister in the mid-season finale trailer MTV premiered at Comic-Con this past weekend.
As an aside, Gerard shared all of this new with Scott (Tyler Posey), in exchange for use of the True Alpha’s healing abilities — but Scotty still doesn’t trust him. And, really, why should he?

Derek’s Bad Romance

OK, let’s talk about Derek’s eyes now!
Back in high school, Derek fell for a pretty young thing named Paige, and things seemed to be looking up for the couple — until Peter basically forced Derek to turn his little girlfriend into a big, bad wolf. But when Derek was unable to bite her himself, Ennis (Brian Patrick Wade) stepped in to finish the task.
Sadly, as Peter explained, some people just aren’t meant for the life of a werewolf; so poor Romeo-wolf had to sit there as his Juliet died in his arms. Actually, worse: He had to put her out of her misery himself! Cue the blue eyes.

Odds & Ends

1. There’s a slight chance Deucalion (Gideon Emery) is the son of the Greek Titan Prometheus. Or, at least, he’s named after him. Either way, he’s old as s**t.
2. Gerard is the one who blinded Deucalion.
3. Oh, and Deucalion isn’t always blind. When he wolfs out, he can see, which Allison (Crystal Reed) thinks she might be able to use against him — though she should really just go home because her plans are always awful.
4. Did anyone detect a spark between Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) and Cora (Adelaide Kane)?
what did you think of this week’s episode? Was it too much information all at once, or did you enjoy the (many) reveals? And what do you predict will happen next? Drop a comment!

SCOOP ON VAMPIRE DIARIES

Who’s hooking up? Who’s throwing down? The cast revealed a few major season five secrets in San Diego.

We still have nearly three months until The Vampire Diaries kicks off its fifth season on The CW, but the cast is already hard at work filming. And the stars were on hand July 20 at the show’s Comic-Con panel to dish a little dirt — including the future of Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) re-affirmed romance. (Spoiler alert: The future looks bright!)

Silas’ Dark Plans For Mystic Falls

Let’s begin with Paul Wesley, who will be pulling double duty in season five, both as Stefan (in a box) and the true form of Silas. Before the panel began, attendees were shown an intense clip of Paul (as Silas), addressing what seemed to be a compelled group of humans in Mystic Falls. He wants the limits of his powers to be tested, which only makes me even more terrified of the already terrifying villain.
That said, Silas isn’t going to be the only threat on the show this season. In fact, he isn’t even going to be the biggest! Executive producer Julie Plec explained that the season’s initial villain is rarely the official “big bad,” to which Paul responded, “Just when you think you’re at the top of the food chain!”

Damon & Elena: So ‘Happy’ Together

The pre-panel footage featured a shot of Damon and Elena kissing, and during a separate interview with EW.com, the cast — specifically Nina — revealed some very good news for ‘Delena’ fans:
It’s been a fun summer for Elena and Damon. And Elena’s going to college now, so they’re going to try to make the long-distance thing work.
But no one was more surprised than Ian to learn that Damon and Elena actually stand a fighting chance. When Julie old him the goal was to make the couple “happy” in season five, his response was, “I thought they were joking. Damon never gets the girl!”

Bonnie & Jeremy’s Ghost-Love

Of course, ‘Delena’ isn’t the only fan-favorite couple on the show right now. Kat Graham told fans to expect a lot of scenes between Bonnie and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) — mostly because he’s the only one who can see her. She also remained mum about when her big secret will finally come out.
As for Jeremy’s little situation, the resurrection is addressed immediately. Oh, and Jeremy will definitely be living with Damon — which is just awesome

Game Of Thrones’ At Comic-Con: Cast Talks Death & Romance In Season 4

The faces and brains behind ‘Game Of Thrones’ discussed what fans will (and won’t) see when the show returns in 2014.

The dead walked among the living July 19 at the Comic-Con panel for HBO’s Game of Thrones, as Richard Madden and Michelle Fairley – whose characters were tragically killed at the now-infamous Red Wedding — joined the rest of the show’s cast to talk about Westeros’ past, present and future. And what a future it is!

‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 4: Who’s Dying?

Because nearly every character on Game of Thrones was born with one foot in Death’s door, it’s natural for fans to worry about one of their favorite Westeros residents dropping dead at any moment. But even the most die-hard fans — I’m looking at you, book readers — won’t be able to predict who’s dying (and who’s not) when the show returns next summer.
“Some of the actors finding out what happens in the books to their character doesn’t mean the same will happen in the scripts,” series author George R. R. Martin proclaimed during the panel, though he didn’t clarify whether or not he was specifically referring to deaths.

Wildling Love

Fans of the complicated romance between Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Ygritte (Rose Leslie) will definitely want to tune into season four — as if you were thinking of tuning out.
“Wildling life is the only life she’s ever known, and suddenly, here comes Jon Snow,” Rose said of her character’s inner turmoil. “The love that she has for him dominated.”
Say it with me now: “Aww!”

A Royal Reunion At Comic-Con

One of the highlights of the panel was a brief reunion between Emilia Clarke and Jason Momoa, who impulsively joined his former cast mates on stage during the presentation.
Emilia’s response? “My sun and stars,” of course! (She really is always ready to jump into character, isn’t she?)

‘Game Of Thrones’ Prequels?!

Everybody wants to know what’s coming up next — but what about what came before? This was George R. R. Martin’s response when a fan asked about the possibility of prequels to his book series:
“First, I have to finish The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring.”
(In other words, don’t hold your breath!)
